In Deed Book 95, Page 29, Jackson County Courthouse, Jackson County, West Virginia the Heirs Estate Deed of Anna Maria Elizabeth (Cheuvront) Maddox, wife of William Oscar Maddox 6 is found. The heirs to this deed were, Mary Louisa 7 (Maddox) Currey, husband, James Harvey Currey, Sarah 7 (Maddox) Ott, husband, Lewis Ott and George C. Maddox 7, wife, Mahala (Lockhart) Maddox. In this deed, George C. and Mahala (Lockhart) Maddox and Sarah (Maddox) Ott and husband, Lewis Ott bought out the 3rd share of the property under this deed titled to Mary Louisa (Maddox) Currey and her husband, James Harvey Currey. The purchase price was a total of $1,000.00. The closing date on the deed was 1 February 1868. The deed didn’t give the total acres involved, but referred to the deed by Aaron Cheuvront to Anna Maria Elizabeth (Cheuvront) Maddox. From the language used in the deed, it was impossible to determine the exact location of the property, but it was along Sand Creek. The deed was recorded by David Sommerville, Justice of the Peace for Jackson County, West Virginia. A copy of this deed is attached to the master file of the Maddox Family History.

In the 1840 census of Jackson County, Virginia (WV) William Oscar Maddox, Sr. 6 was listed at the age of 33, born in Virginia, Anna Maria Elizabeth (wife) age 36, born Virginia, Amos Aaron Maddox, age 5, born in Virginia, George C. Maddox, age 7, born in Virginia, Rebecca Maddox, age 4, born in Virginia and Sarah Maddox, age 6, born in Virginia. Mary Louisa Maddox, the last child of William was not listed since she was born in 1841.

From the estate deed of Anna Maria Elizabeth (Cheuvront) Maddox (his mother) dated 1868 found in Deed Book 95, page 29 on file in Jackson County, West Virginia the following was found. The heirs were James Harvey and Mary Louisa (Maddox) Currey, Lewis and Sarah (Maddox) Ott and George C. and Mahala (Lockhart) Maddox. Lewis Ott and George C. Maddox bought out the 3rd. share belonging to James Harvey Currey for the sum of $1,000.00. The land laid on Sand Creek in what was then Gilmore Township, Jackson County, West Virginia, this would have been in and around the Gilmore School location.

1861 is consistent with the couple's first child being born January 1866.
