Amos Aaron Maddox

From the Record

Per the Chapter 1 narrative, the only member of the direct lineage known to have taken part in the American Civil War, reported to have served with the CSA (Confederate States of America). Two accounts of his death exist, both from Typhoid Fever: one that he was buried in the Maddox Cemetery, Jackson County, West Virginia, the other that he died in Harrison County and was buried at Good Hope, Harrison County, West Virginia. No grave has been found in either county.

• During the American Civil War, very few Maddox family members in our lineage took part. The only reference that we have is Amos Aaron Maddox (1835-1863), son of William Oscar and Anna Maria Elizabeth (Cheuvront) Maddox was reported to have served with the CSA (Confederate States of America). There are two accounts of his death, one that he died of Typhoid Fever and he was buried in the Maddox Cemetery, Jackson County, West Virginia. The other is that he died of Typhoid Fever in Harrison County, Virginia (WV) and he was buried at Good Hope, Harrison County, West Virginia. First, no grave has ever been found in either Harrison County or Jackson County, West Virginia, but that doesn’t mean that he was not buried in one of those cemeteries, just that no gravestone has ever been found.
