From the Record
Listed in the 1880 census of Jackson County as a 17-year-old farm laborer. Worked in the timber industry in Jackson County, was a farmer and lived from the land. By a deed dated 23 December 1881 (drawn up by James H. Currey; recorded in Deed Book 28, pages 491-492 by L. H. Lemley, Clerk of Courts, on 13 March 1886), he agreed to keep Matilda (Bolin) Cheuvront, last wife of Aaron Cheuvront, comfortable in sickness and health, employ a skilled physician for her, and arrange her burial.
In return he would receive the remaining Cheuvront property on Sand Creek; the earlier history calls it 48 acres, more or less, while the later charts say about 37 acres. He appears to have kept up his end of the agreement, received ownership, and spent the rest of his life on the property, which remained in Maddox ownership when the charts were written. The date of his second marriage is given as '18 June 1907-(1908)' in the table and '18th of June 1907/1908' in the narrative, both years retained.

Where the Sources Disagree
second marriage year (to Bertha A. Smith) — 18 June 1907-(1908) (Chapter 9 table (line 1534)) · 18th of June 1907/1908 (Chapter 9 narrative (line 1928)) — the chronicle uses 18 June 1907-(1908).
The source itself gives both years without resolving them.
acreage received for Matilda Cheuvront's care — 48 acres, more or less (Maddox Family History, generation 8 narrative) · about 37 acres (Maddox Family History Charts, generation 8 narrative (chart transcript line 4581)) — the chronicle uses the tract is described without a resolved acreage.
