George William Maddox 9 was born on the 13th day of October 1888 in Jackson County, West Virginia to John Amos and Hannah Jane “Sis” (Conger) Maddox. George married Laura Estella Robbins of Parsons Run, Jackson County, West Virginia on the 30th day of July 1920 in Jackson County, West Virginia.
George and his wife lived for a short time in a small house on Drift Run, in this house on 15 September 1922, my father, Carl Owen Maddox was born. George, Laura and Carl moved to Lockhart, Jackson County, West Virginia. The family then moved to Ravenswood, Jackson County, West Virginia.
George entered the U. S. Army on the 27th of May 1918. He served in combat and was wounded in the left leg and arm on 14 September 1918 at Verdun, France. Because of the wounds, George lost his left leg, George wore a wooden leg for the rest of his life. George did receive a 75 per cent disability pension for life from the U. S. Army. His U. S. Army service number was 316989 and he was discharged on 12 September 1919.
Carl Owen Maddox 10 left Ravenswood and moved to Washington County, Ohio and in 1943, George and his wife moved to Washington County, Ohio. George lived on a farm on Route 50-A in Washington County, near Barlow, Ohio. Later this farm was sold and George moved to Belpre, Ohio. Carl Owen Maddox bought this farm and George and Laura moved back to the farm. At the time of their deaths, the mailing address for George and Laura was at the farm. George and Laura both were residents of the Harmer House Nursing Home in Marietta, Ohio at the time of their deaths. George died on 5 May 1976 and Laura died on 6 January 1977. Both George and Laura were buried in the Rockland Cemetery, Belpre, Washington County, Ohio.
Laura Estella Robbins was born 20 November 1895 in a log house on Parsons Run, Medina area, Jackson County, West Virginia. Her parents were William Alexander Robbins and Rachel (Thompson) Robbins. Laura went to the Lockhart School and the Lockhart United Methodist Church, which was about a mile walk each way.
Levi Robbins was born in 1806 in North Carolina. Levi had a son, Stephen Robbins, born 28 January 1832 in Monroe, County, Ohio.
Stephen Robbins entered Jackson County, West Virginia in 1882. He bought property on Parson Run from Albert Lockhart (1840-1905). Stephens son, William Alexander Robbins entered Jackson County, West Virginia in 1887.
Stephen Robbins along with the help of William Thomas, Valentine Cooper and W. H. Beymer formed the Lockhart United Methodist Church in 1887. Stephen Robbins was a Methodist Minister. It appears that he left Monroe County, Ohio and first went to Marietta, Washington County, Ohio were he was minister of the First Methodist Church of Marietta, Ohio (source: Washington County History 1980) and later to Jackson County, West Virginia. Stephen Robbins was the first preacher at the Lockhart Methodist Church. This church, still standing and being used today was photographed. On the front is a sign with states “1887” and re-built “1921”

William Alexander Robbins died testate, 12 June 1921 and by his will dated 6 May 1921, probated 17 June 1921 in Jackson County Circuit Court and filed in said Courts Clerks Office in will book 4, page 120, he devised said tract of land (Parsons Run) unto his widow, Rachel M. Robbins, for life. After the death of Rachel, the property fell into the hands of the heirs and the deed was recorded at 9:30 am on 7 September 1946, found in fee book 240 and 241. Later, the property fell out of the ownership of the heirs (by sale), but all mineral rights were retained by the heirs. A copy of this is attached to the master Maddox Family History file.
