The family compilation places Green Springs Farm near Chaptico in St. Mary's County, Maryland, and begins its account with Samuel Maddox. This is a reconstructed ownership tradition assembled from will, estate, and deed abstracts, not a legal chain-of-title opinion.
Samuel Maddox's will, dated 18 January 1684 and cited as Liber PC 1, folio 51, left the 300 acres where he lived to Notley; the separately registered will abstract is the evidence for that bequest, while this compilation identifies the tract as Green Springs. The farm account next says Notley's will, cited as Liber 14, folio 108, passed the home tract to Samuel, but it dates the will 24 February 1715 where the existing history reads 1716. It then reports a 19 November 1739 will transferring the farm to nephew Samuel and a 7 March 1801 will, Liber JJ 2, folio 277, devising it onward. The latter Samuel Jr. is not safely mapped to an existing person, so no new parent or person link is asserted.
The compiler transcribes an estate valuation dated 9 August 1843 and cited as GC 1, page 45. It describes 328 acres and improvements, then assigns annual monetary values to eleven enslaved people: Hercules, Fielden, Stephen, Heze, John Frier, Hanson, George, Jane, Mary, Louisa, and Maria. The record documents coerced labor and the estate's treatment of people as income-producing property; the names are preserved so that the individuals are not reduced to acreage, buildings, or a single financial total. Because the underlying estate page has not been published here, the passage remains explicitly a compiler's transcription rather than an original-record claim.
For the next transaction the concise compilation cites a deed dated 11 March 1852, JTB 1, page 168, and says four heirs conveyed 325 acres to George Francis Maddox. Because the document summarizes rather than transcribes the deed, this account does not by itself establish that the entire interest passed. It next reports a compiled abstract of George Francis's 23 September 1872 will, devising the farm first to Mary Elizabeth Keech Maddox and then to their son George William; those two unmatched people are not added solely from this summary.
The final abstract says George William Maddox's will was dated 18 March 1944 and left Green Springs to his wife, Lucy Virginia Lancaster Maddox, for life, then to five named children. Other archive compilations disagree about the will and probate dates; this story retains the 1944 date only as the selected source's reading. The account ends with George's death in 1947 and Lucy's in 1949. It supplies no later deed and expressly says the subsequent owners were unknown, so neither full title in 1852 nor an end of Maddox ownership in 1949 is claimed. This Maryland George is not the similarly named West Virginia George William Maddox in the direct tree.
