Carl Owen Maddox 10 was born in a small house on Drift Run, Jackson County, West Virginia. The house that he was born in is no longer standing (see photograph of house) Carl lived in Lockhart and Ravenswood, Jackson County, West Virginia. Carl moved to Washington County, Ohio and worked for the Remington Rand Company in Marietta, Washington county, Ohio. Carl also worked for and retired from the Union Carbide Company.
Carl and Edna L. Ingraham were married in Gallipolis, Ohio on 26 October 1942. Carl entered the U. S. Navy on 15 March 1944 and was sent to the Battleship, BB-48, USS West Virginia and his rank was Petty Officer 3rd. Class. Carl’s service number was 926-78-69. Carl served in the following battles during World War II in the South Pacific, Leyte Gulf, Surigao Straits, Mindora, Luzon, Iwo Jima and Okinawa (see attached information) Carl was discharged on 18 January 1946 and he returned home to his wife.
On 16 October 1992 Carl and Edna had their 50th. Wedding Anniversary, held at the United Methodist Church, Vincent, Washington County, Ohio (see photographs and newspaper article). On 26 October 2002 they had been married for 60 years and spent the day with family.
Edna L. (Ingraham) Maddox worked for the Warren School System in Vincent, Washington County, Ohio. Both Carl and Edna are retired and live on the Maddox Family Farm located on State Route 550 one and one half miles west of Barlow, Ohio
