• As a Preface to the Maddox Family History, which follows, the reader is reminded that the Perry Family History was told with discussion of various people named Perry who were said to have no apparent close family connection. As to the family history, which follows, it will help to be aware that close to the same point in time in early America, three persons named Maddox came to these shores from Wales. Each established lines of descendants who were somewhat outstanding. Agatha Victoria Maddox Perry is a direct descendant of one of those three. Neither her ancestor nor the second of the three are mentioned by the history, which follows, although the third person ties directly into the history. No proof is found that the three people are related indeed, in this country I do not know of facilities in which to make that search. There was not a multitude of people by the family name of Maddox or any of its derivations. The facts known of “our” Maddox Family suggests that they were resolute accomplishers. Best known to us is Agatha Victoria, and she certainly followed her destiny with great determination. It seems likely that some relationship would exist between the three emigrants.

• Thomas Maddox 5 (20 June 1788-12 August 1872), a son of Matthew, Sr 4. and Rachel (Bonnifield) Maddox was born in Harrison County, Virginia (WV). Thomas moved to Wood County, Virginia (WV) in 1812. Thomas 5, along with his two wives, had 22 children. Thomas, both wives and six of his children are buried in the Maddox Cemetery, Wood County, West Virginia. His children were, Amy Maddox 6 (1814-1880),married Robert Luther Fleming, Lucy Maddox 6 born, 1815, married William Davis, Martin G. Maddox 6 (1817-1847), married Julia Ann Romine, William P. Maddox 6 (1818-1904), married first Nancy Price, then Olive R. Hopkins, Mary Maddox 6, born, 1821, John Maddox 6 (1823-1863), Drusilla Maddox 6 (1824-1847), married Thomas B. Leach, Victoria Maddox 6 (1827-1847), married Caleb T. Hill, Frances Maddox 6, born, 1829, Emmeline Maddox 6, born, 1831, married Robert McReynolds, Thomas Maddox 6 (1834-1834 child), Virginia Maddox 6 (1835-1877), married first, Bascom Morrison then John Bartlett, James Maddox 6 (1837-1858), Hester Villeta Maddox 6 (1839-1882), married David Aresto Bridges, Thomas Benton Maddox 6 (1841-1882), married Mattie A. Mitchell, David M. Maddox 6 (1844-1845 child), Lodema Maddox 6 (1845-1921), married Crandson Wolfe, Appalene Rebecca Maddox 6 (1847-1927), married John Willard Moyers, Eliza Page Maddox 6 (1850-1911), married Martin V. Cales Ann O. Maddox 6 (1852-1899), married Robert John Howell, Martha Ann Maddox 6 (1855-1855 child) and Sarah Minerva Maddox 6 (1858-1903), married Henry Dills Truman.
