  • The father of John D. Smith, who married Mary Ann Maddox, daughter of Matthew Jr. and Mary Ann (Romine) Maddox, was Watters Smith. Watters Smith lived on a farm in the Duck Creek area of Harrison County, Virginia (WV). This farm site is now a West Virginia State Park where one can tour the land, building, old log homes and the Smith Cemetery, to see how life was like in those times, the 1700’s and 1800’s. The children of Mary Ann Maddox and John D. Smith were Adoline Smith (1839-1930), Edgar Smith born 1840, Delia Ann Smith born 1843, Porter Smith born 1845, Emeline Smith born 1849 and Alexander A. Smith (1847-1949), who all were born, lived and died in Harrison County, Virginia (WV).

  • Mary Ann Maddox 6, daughter of Matthew Maddox, Jr. 5 and Mary Ann (Romine) Maddox was born 28 March 1820 in Harrison County, Virginia (now West Virginia), married John D. Smith (12 November 1810-2 February 1887) in Harrison County, Virginia (now West Virginia) on 28 April 1839. The parents of John D. Smith were Watters and Elizabeth (Davisson) Smith. Mary Ann 6 (Maddox) Smith died 6 March 1861 and along with her husband are buried in the Sinclair Cemetery, Harrison County, West Virginia. The children of Mary Ann Maddox 6 and John D. Smith were Adoline Smith 7 (1839-1930), Edgar Smith 7 (1840-?), Delia Ann Smith 7 1843-?), Porter Smith 7 (1845-?), Emeline Smith (1849-?) and Alexander A. Smith 7 (1847-1949).
