David and Hannah Eaton purchased 100 acres on the North Fork of Lee Creek in Steele District, Wood County, Virginia, from John and Rebecca Small for five hundred dollars. The deed was filed on 18 February 1856, recorded on 22 March 1856, and is identified as Wood County Deed Book 18, page 218. The family history reports that a copy was attached to the Eaton Family History Report.
